1  Who publishes this

I do. My name is Jaylan Jones and I write every page here. There is no editorial board and no roster of contributors; when a page says “we” it means a one-person operation that has read the extension literature and the state rules closely and tries to set them down in plain English.

I am not an entomologist and I am not a licensed operator. I have never treated a house and I never will. What I can do is read the primary sources carefully, keep the local detail honest, and refuse to write the sentence when I am not sure of it. Where a licensed inspector standing in your crawlspace would know better, the page says so.

2  Why it exists

Search for almost any pest question in this county and you get two kinds of result: operator pages that answer every question with “call us”, and national articles written by somebody who has never seen Piedmont red clay. Neither helps when a swarm comes out of a baseboard in April and you have to decide something by Friday.

The gap is not information about insects. That part is well covered by the universities. The gap is the decision: what a correct job on your foundation actually involves, what belongs in a written proposal, what the warranty is really promising, and which of these problems you can simply fix yourself with a shovel and an afternoon. That is what this site is for.

3  The editorial line

Three rules hold the whole thing up. We publish nothing an independent contractor would be expected to honor, because we are not that contractor and you would be the one left holding it. We rank nobody and we take nothing for placement. And we would rather leave a question open than close it with a confident guess.

4  The ground we cover

Cobb County and the towns around its edges: Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth, Mableton, Powder Springs, Austell, plus Woodstock and Canton over the Cherokee line and Dunwoody to the east. One county is a deliberate limit. It is small enough that the pages can say something true about a specific place rather than something safe about anywhere.

It is also a demanding place to own a house. Georgia sits in Termite Infestation Probability Zone 1, the highest tier the rating has. The soil is Piedmont red clay, which holds water far longer than the sand south of the fall line, and that long moisture window is why eastern subterranean termites forage here all year rather than shutting down for a winter. On top of that the housing stock runs from Square-era frame houses through fifty-year-old crawlspace ranches to slab subdivisions built since 2000, and those three fail in completely different ways.
